About Us

Private dog training services and difficult behavior problems

In-home dog behavior counseling, estate services, doggie bootcamp, and puppy training by world-renowned trainer, John Rodriguez.

We've worked with hundreds of dog lovers over the years and most just want a happy, healthy dog they can live with and enjoy. We found that group classes or cookie-cutter training packages weren't going to solve their dogs' behavioral problems. So we stopped doing obedience classes and concentrated on making house calls. After all that's where the problems are.

Philosophy

Quality, personal, high-touch experience for you and your dog. You will work directly with John, not an assistant or kennel worker. Our goal is two-fold: A happy, confident, well-trained dog, a satisfied client who is better able to understand and communicate with their dog.

Our dog training and behavior services are unique and personal. John will meet with you to discuss the challenges you are facing and the goals you have for your relationship with your puppy or dog. He will take into account your dog's personality, history, social environment, age, sex and breed. Then he will work with you to set expectations and design a dog training program that is uniquely yours.

Techniques

We have crafted and fine-tuned our training techniques by raising, training and competing with puppies we have bred and raised ourselves. To gain a better understanding of what is natural and what is unnatural, what works and what does not work, we observe how mom, dad and the other pack members behave with their young, then couple that learning with rigorous academic curiosity and training with global leaders in the field.

We have adapted natural canine communication into dog training methods that help your dog learn the lessons and form the bonds that will make him a confident, well-rounded part of your family. We will teach you how to understand and adapt your dog's behavior as you learn to speak his language and build a better relationship.

Our craft has been tested and refined by working with thousands of dogs across a spectrum of breeds, environments and issues. Today, we are the standard others follow.

Background

Our training and behavior business was born of love and a deep understanding of the secret life of dogs. Many of our clients call it a gift. One part teacher, one part therapist and one part dog whisperer--our training methods are based on an understanding and feel for natural dog behavior.

Our respect for dogs and our understanding of canine behavior is evident in the dog training articles we have written that have been published in several national and international magazines.Respected around the world, we have played host to or trained with many top dog trainers, judges, and dog sport competitors. When other dog training professionals need to brush up on their training techniques or have a particularly difficult dog behavior problem to solve, they come to us--the trainers' trainer.

Over 30 years ago, we founded the Connecticut Working Dog Association, the first dogsport club in Connecticut. As President and Training Director, John helped members achieve regional championship titles, compete successfully at a national level and attain dozens of working titles (AKC, Schutzhund, and police certification) on various breeds of dogs.

Recognized around the globe and on TV as a dog behavior expert, our articles have been published nationally and internationally in dog-related magazines. John has titled seven different dogs with competition scores often making the Schutzhund USA top ten lists, including First place with Bona vom Wunderhund - bred and trained by John. He was evaluated as a Teaching Helper (decoy) by United Schutzhund Clubs of America's Helper Program and has worked with several local police departments.

We appreciate that no two dogs or families are alike. For some a course of in-home dog training fits the bill, for the pampered pet of a busy CEO a weekly schedule of training and dog play are what's on tap, for others a one-time behavior session is all that is needed. And for some a few weeks at doggie camp followed up by in-home consultations would garner the best results.

Whatever your needs, together we can design a training program that is right for you and your dog.
